Assignment for the State Work Groups: Getting Down to Nuts and Bolts
PURPOSE:This exercise is to allow the participants from each State to begin their team-building plans. You will have 1 hour and 15 minutes for the "brain-storming" session. After a 15 minute break, you will have 5 minutes to report on your plans. In an effort to gather consistent information and to make the best use of the limited time,
we suggest that you identify the following:
- The strengths and weaknesses of your State's welfare reform efforts, particularly as they relate to substance abuse treatment
- (1)Areas of effective collaboration between youragency and other State agencies vs.(2) areas where such collaboration could be initiated or improved.
- (1)Areas where resources/Externals/funding is adequate vs. (2)areas where resources are lacking or could be improved.
- Areas that may require technical assistance(e.g., from CSAT).
- Areas that may require outside input(e.g., trainig/education, technical assistance, lobbying efforts) from national organizations such as the American Public Welfare Association,the National Governor's Association, the National Conference of State Legislatures, and the National Organizatiion of State Alcohol and Drug Abuse Directors.
- Tools/instruments for screening, data collection, data evaluation, and so on that your State is developing or would like to develop.
